Personal consultation: Before the procedure, you will have the opportunity to receive a detailed consultation with Dr. Daniel Seiler. All your questions will be answered, and we will ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.
Surgical procedure: The vasectomy is performed by Dr. Daniel Seiler on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. He has many years of experience and expertise in this field. We use the latest techniques to perform the procedure as gently as possible.
Sperm monitoring: After the surgery, we offer a sperm monitoring to ensure that the vasectomy was successful and that no further measures are necessary. This follow-up care is an important part of our comprehensive care package.
Support for Anxiety or Nervousness Before a Vasecomy
Feeling some anxiety before a vasectomy is completely normal. If you experience significant fear or nervousness, a calming nasal spray can be used to help you relax. Its effects last for approximately 45 minutes.
Please note that after using the spray, you must not drive. Make sure you arrange for someone to accompany you home.
If you wish to use this option, please discuss it in advance during the consultation. This ensures that your ambulatory procedure under local anesthesia is as comfortable and safe as possible.
If a man who has undergone a vasectomy later decides to resume family planning, a procedure called a vasectomy reversal (vasovasostomy) may be considered.
The success rate of a vasectomy reversal depends on various factors, including the time elapsed since the original vasectomy, the surgical technique, and the surgeon’s experience. In general, the shorter the time since the vasectomy, the higher the chances of successful fertility restoration. Other factors that may influence success include the man's age and overall health. We currently do not offer vasectomy reversal in our practice.
A vasectomy is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia—general anesthesia is not necessary. The procedure takes about 20 minutes.
Preparation: After disinfecting the scrotum, the skin is numbed with a local anesthetic. A small incision (approx. 0.5–1 cm) is made above the vas deferens. Cutting the vas deferens: The doctor exposes the vas deferens, cuts it, removes a small section, and seals both ends (by cauterization and ligation). The procedure is repeated on the other side. The incision is closed with dissolvable sutures and a bandage.
Most patients feel little to no pain during the procedure. This is due to the local anesthesia. After the procedure, mild swelling or a feeling of tightness may occur, but these symptoms usually subside after a few days.
You will usually be able to return to work right away (if your job involves light physical activity). You should avoid sports, sex, and strenuous physical activity for one week. Everything will be fully healed after about two weeks.
Yes—a vasectomy is considered one of the safest methods of contraception. Once confirmed by a semen analysis (usually after 12 weeks), its effectiveness is over 99.9%.
It takes several weeks and several ejaculations for all remaining sperm to be cleared from the reproductive tract. Only after a "zero sperm count" is a man considered infertile.
No. The production of hormones such as testosterone remains unchanged, as do libido, erectile function, and the ability to orgasm. Many men even report a more relaxed sex life—free from the pressure of contraception.
Yes—the ejaculate looks and feels the same as before. The only thing missing is the sperm (which makes up only about 2–5% of the fluid), which is not visible to the naked eye.
About 12 weeks after the procedure, you will provide a semen sample at the laboratory. The procedure is considered complete and successful only once no sperm are present in the sample.
