„I only go to the doctor if something’s wrong“ –
Why men should rethink this approach by age 40

Many men feel healthy well into their forties — which is exactly why preventive check-ups are often postponed. However, urological conditions such as prostate enlargement, prostate cancer, bladder problems, or hormonal changes often develop silently. A preventive urological examination from the age of 40 helps detect potential health issues early, long before symptoms appear, and plays a key role in maintaining long-term health, vitality, and quality of life.

What exactly happens during a urological check-up?

Many men imagine unpleasant scenes when they hear the word "urologist." However, a modern preventive examination is neither painful nor embarrassing— above all, it is straightforward and discreet.

A typical check-up with us includes:

  • A personal consultation (medical history): Here we talk openly about topics such as urination, erectile function, libido, family history of disease (e.g., prostate cancer), general health, and lifestyle.
  • Physical examination: This includes palpating the testicles and examining the external genitalia – for example, checking for lumps, varicoceles, or other changes. The digital rectal examination (DRE) is performed only when clearly necessary.
  • Laboratory tests: The PSA level (prostate-specific antigen) in the blood is particularly important. This can provide indications of benign or malignant changes in the prostate. Urine is also analyzed to detect inflammation, blood, or other abnormalities at an early stage.
  • Ultrasound
We use ultrasound to examine the kidneys, bladder, and prostate— painlessly, quickly, and conclusively.

Urological screening

Studies show: Prevention saves lives

The large European ERSPC study proves that men who undergo regular preventive screening have up to a 20% lower risk of dying from prostate cancer .

Even more importantly, tumors detectedearly are often curable without the need for aggressive therapies.

Other conditions—such as benign prostate enlargement, bladder problems, hormonal imbalances, or sexually transmitted infections—can also be detected during preventive care and are usually very treatable .

"I was more afraid of it than I needed to be."

After their first screening appointment, many men report that they were surprised by how relaxed, professional, and respectful the process was. The biggest hurdle was often not the appointment itself, but the step of making it. "I was afraid of what they might find," says one man.
